EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: JOHN E. DESIGN ENGINEER
How long have you been with A&J, and what do you do here? I’ve worked at A&J since 1989, so 32 years. I used computer-aided design software to develop, test and improve A&J’s product designs. I work directly with our customers to research and modify existing products to improve performance and ensure that our racks meet their design requirements. One of my projects that stands out was a 6-bay cabinet assembly involving two trips to Lockheed Martin’s offices for design review meetings.
What aspect of your role at A&J do you like the most? Engineering requires an innovative approach to problem solving and intuition, which means my brain is challenged on a daily basis. I get to be creative. The basics never change, but there are always little quirks on each project. And I love that my job allows me to see the project at all stages: from the initial calculations through construction, creation and commissioning.
What is on your wish list for the next 5-10 years with A&J? I’m lucky that my position is one that keeps me engaged and interested. Because engineering is so adaptable, I hope to continue improving both my technical and soft skills.
